Jigsaw is released as Shareware. This is a system of software distribution where you are encouraged to distribute unregistered versions of this software. Please see the Distribution information section for details about how Jigsaw can be distributed.
How long can I use it for?
You are allowed a period of four (4) weeks to evaluate this software and decide for yourself whether you want to keep it. If you decide to keep it, you need to register the software.
Why should I register this software?
Registration entitles you to use all the features of Jigsaw. The unregistered version has the following limitations:
ΓÇó you can only use 3 of the 10 shapes that Jigsaw comes with,
ΓÇó you cannot change the "snappyness", number, size or randomness of the pieces,
ΓÇó you cannot save games,
ΓÇó you can only use the default "end of game" sound,
ΓÇó you can only join 20 pieces together per game.
Upon registration, I will send to you the information you need to correctly register your copy and to enable all the features.
How much does it cost to be registered?
ΓÇó well, I like to think that people are generous and/or creative. If you are this type and you don't feel like sending money, then by all means send me something. If I like it, I will register you. Of course, it's at my discretion but I'm not too hard to please - honest! Feel free to check with me by sending me e-mail before you send your contribution.
Those of you who know a foreign language and would like to translate text and menus for a foreign version are invited to ask me (e-mail only) and a suitable arrangement can be worked out, ie translation (with credits of course) in exchange for a registration. If you do future versions, you are automatically registered for those versions.
For those of you who prefer sending (gasp) money, the fee is US$20.
Students may register for US$15. You must includes two pieces of identification (photocopies will do) to prove your status as a student or you will not be registered (don't forget to show the expiry date!). The identification is not recorded and will not be distributed. It is only for identification purposes.
I appeal to your sense of honesty: if you have 7 copies of Jigsaw in use by 7 people or on 7 machines, please register 7 copies! It is quite cheap to do this and would improve my outlook on fellow humans :) The Registration Form dialog will show you the correct amount to send.
How can I pay ?
I accept:
ΓÇó personal/bank cheque/check: several currencies are accepted - see the Registration Form dialog for details.
ΓÇó credit cards. They will be processed by Kagi Shareware, a shareware fee collection service based in the USA.
ΓÇó postal money orders: in AUD$ and US$ only. For Japanese postal money orders, note that 1) they have a commission of about AUD$10 which the Registration Form dialog will add on to the total, and 2) they arrive as a cheque and do NOT have your address on it so you must also send the registration form separately to me (either as a letter or e-mail).
ΓÇó cash: please send only those currencies shown in the Registration Form dialog. If you do send cash, be cafeful to hide it inside the envelope so that it cannot be seen from outside. If you wish, send it via registered mail so that it can be traced if lost. Please try not to send lots of small bills (such as US$1 bills) unless you cannot avoid it.
ΓÇó NetCash. A form of cash that exists on the internet and which can be converted back to real cash, this is processed by Kagi Shareware.
ΓÇó First Virtual. A bank that exists on the internet, you can pay from an account you hold with them.
I cannot accept:
ΓÇó traveller's cheques/checks.
ΓÇó CompuServe SWREG. Sorry, but it is not available for 2 reasons: 1) you must have a CompuServe account (which ain't cheap in Australia - or anywhere else in the world) and 2) CompuServe take 15% of the fee. If there is enough demand, I will consider it.
I can accept direct bank deposits but be aware that this is not a cheap option for you. If you wish to do this, contact me (via e-mail if you can).
ΓÇó I no longer send out disks with the latest version. Sorry. The latest version is usually available for download from Online services and from User Groups at very reasonable prices.
How do I register?
• 1) fill in a Registration Form. Go to the About Jigsaw dialog and click the "Fill in registration form…" button. Enter your details and select the appropriate boxes and buttons. When you are ready, print the form (and optionally set up your printer first) or save it as a picture or a text file. Saving it as a text file allows you to make a record of your form and lets you edit your form further. You may wish to e-mail the form to me ahead of sending payment so that I am alerted to your intentions. Before sending your form, please check it to ensure that all the details (especially mail addresses, e-mail addresses, fax numbers and payment details) are correct. If you are sending the form to Kagi Shareware via normal post or fax, please make sure that the form you send has the barcodes on it.
ΓÇó 2) send the Registration Form and payment to the address shown on the form. Please make sure that the contents of the letter are not visible. See the Warnings section below.
ΓÇó 3) I will send to you (preferably via e-mail) your registration instructions and code. You will need to enter your name and/or company and the code to activate and register your copy. You specify the name and/or company you intend to enter on your Registration Form and this will be used to create your unique code. If you change your mind about the details, you will need a new code so be certain of what your details are.
ΓÇó 4) With any new minor versions released, you will be able to use the same code and instructions. So to upgrade yourself, merely obtain the new version and re-enter the registration information. For this reason, it is very important that you do not throw away your registration instructions! Keep it safe and make a backup or two of your registered version.
Warnings, notes and tips:
ΓÇó Please check whether there is a newer major version available before sending in your fee. You should obtain the newest major version and send in its fee and not that of the older version. A major upgrade is when the first number changes, e.g. from v1.7 to v2.0. A minor upgrade is when the next number(s) change only, e.g. from v1.5 to v1.6
ΓÇó Please do not write "registration" or "fee" or make it obvious that you have enclosed any payment inside! This is only going to invite trouble. I suggest you wrap the payment inside the registration form and perhaps wrap that inside more paper or aluminium foil. For extra safety (but maybe not security) you can also send it as registered mail (which allows a trace to be done should it be lost).
What about upgrades and updates?
ΓÇó upgrades for the minor versions are free. A new minor version is where the numbers after the first period (or full stop) change but the number before it (called the major version number) does not change. For example, v1.2 is a minor upgrade from v1.1 but v2.0 is a major upgrade from v1.5.
ΓÇó upgrades for the major versions are currently undecided. It will depend on how much I think the new version is worth. I will include information about this when any such major version is released.
